Yamchops is a vegetarian butcher shop that just opened in Toronto and has received a remarkable amount of press and reviews everywhere! So many have mentioned it to me, it’s incredible! I think people are very curious to know what a vegetarian butcher shop could even be. Hopefully your curiosity gets you to College Street to try at least one plant-based protein or dairy-free treat from this cool concept.
They are stocked with so much goodness to appeal to vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters alike. They have everything from Chick*n Shawarma to Mongolian “Beef” in their fresh display case, and even more diverse items in their product fridges and freezers, including Screamin’ Brothers coconut milk ice cream (not a coconutty flavour in case you aren’t a fan) and Live On Chocolate Avocado Pops and power puddings – all perfect, especially over the summer. They have an entire fridge devoted to drinks and cold-pressed juices, just read the labels, because only the juices are organic, not the milks. You can definitely put together a great big family meal, or just a take-out on the go lunch for you in moments from YamChops.
The YamChops team were very generous and excited for people to sample what they are making, so I really had the opportunity to try most of the stuff they had available. I enjoyed every single thing I tried, including a crabcake (no crab, of course) and a green juice out on their front patio in the sunshine. I would go back for their avocado layer dip, which was awesmazing. I adore and appreciate avocado in most every form.
My mother and I bought a Chocolate Mint Screaming Brothers Ice Cream and loved it, as did my siblings upon our return home (although, admittedly my mom and I had eaten most of it by the time we shared it!). Hint, let this tub of awesmazingness melt slightly, then the texture is even better, making it hard to stop eating!
Special shout out also goes to the last minute sampling I had of their housemade coconut bacon – if you haven’t tried coconut bacon yet, you really should. It’s great on salads, or even by itself for a snack.
It’s always great to see people who are so enthusiastic about what they are making and serving, it made me feel great, and more excited to eat it. I think the orange accents in their decor gave the entire place the splash of great colour and energy it needed!
I saw on their website that they even deliver! You should check it out.
In conclusion, I think that YamChops is an exciting new food retailer, that has a solid future in Toronto serving vegans and vegetarians, and also those curious about eating better or differently, or just passerbys wanting a great snack or drink to go.
