Loving Hut: Burger Version

Me enjoying Loving Hut "What a Burger"

Who would have thought that Loving Hut, known for their asian food, would also be a great place for burgers and fries? Seriously, it is! But, like the rest of their food, it’s vegan, organic and nut-free.

Sometimes, as a Sunday night treat when we don’t cook, we eat-in or take-out from Loving Hut. Just so you know, they have two locations in Toronto, and they will deliver too, which is a great bonus! If you are doing take-out, it’s amazing that they use compostable containers, but make sure if you do order sushi to remind them not to include that fake plastic grass. We often take our own containers so there is less waste. It’s great that they don’t include those nasty ketchup packets, and if you want ketchup, it’s organic and in a compostable container. Of course, if you are eating at home, you can use your own condiments, cutlery and reusable napkins.

There are two different burgers on their menus (and 3 sandwiches – like a club sandwich). Both are housemade vegan patties and are on the same sprouted wholegrain bun. The original burger is called the “Save The World! Burger” and I always enjoyed it very much, but their recent addition of the “What A Burger” is even better. There is no soy and it’s made from veggies and chickpeas (which I really love). It’s automatically topped with sliced tomato, relish and special sauce, so if you don’t like the idea of that, make sure to ask them for modifications when you order! Please note, that this is a very big burger and the average kid would not even be able to finish it.

Now onto their french fries…we know that they are not healthy but they are just irresistible, so every so often we just go for it! They are organic potatoes and have some sort of coating on them (I should find out what it is) that makes them amazingly crunchy and crispy. I personally like to dip them in some ketchup and maybe some Kozlik’s mustard, my sister really likes them with apple cider vinegar.

If you really want to top off your vegan “junky” meal (not bad but lacks in fresh vegetables!), grab a slice of decadent Sweets from the Earth Cake (my favourite is the chocolate cheesecake) or one of their sinful cookies (my favourite is the double chocolate). Are you now craving one? I certainly am!

If you are a member of the Toronto Vegetarian Association you can get 10% off your order. You should really belong!
