Even though I only eat meat when I’m out of the house, and when I can understand and appreciate where it comes from, I really do enjoy a good burger. The ideal components of an awesmazing burger include, meat from local, organic farms, housemade, clean condiments (and interesting ones get bonus points), fun toppings, and a crap-free bun. I wish more spots offered wholesome, sprouted buns like the now-closed Loving Hut on Eglinton Avenue did! I can assure you that none of the burgers on my list had Heinz ketchup on them!
Here they are below, in order, the favourite is number one. I will try and update this list frequently if something changes! I’ve only included burgers that are worthy, and because I have a list of favourite vegan places, I thought it would be silly to include a vegan burger on this list, although I do encourage you to try them, there are some really incredible ones and will be listed in another one of my lists at some point!
1. The Harbord Room – this burger has occupied my number one spot for years – nothing has been good enough to bump it!
2. Farmhouse Tavern – a newcomer, but was so good I put it right into second place
3. Marben – it’s smaller, but does pack a huge flavour!
4. Richmond Station – even though Toronto Life disagreed (see #12 here), I am confidently putting this on my list!
Now only if they were all served with a side of organic fries, with a sweet potato option!
