Did you know that Doug McNish, one of Toronto’s finest chefs, and recent award-winning cookbook author, (and friend of mine), serves his vegan fare at Brickworks Market every Saturday now? SCORE!
I must admit, I’ve been enjoying his creative dishes for years now, from Raw Aura, to Taboo Resort and Windsor Arms (his menus are still there, but it’s not really as good without his special touch!), and even at my home!
Going to Brickworks Market is my favourite thing to do Saturday mornings with my family, and if you read my blog, you definitely know this by now! The food there is so much fun to talk about and choose and enjoy! Having Doug there is just making my breakfast choices a LOT harder! If you haven’t tried his desserts, I must tell you that they are absolutely, positively, awesmazing – notably, his stuffed cookies, which he has had there a couple times. His shortbread cookies just melted in my mouth! Here’s proof! His menu changes weekly, so it’s a surprise each week what we all get to try and indulge in from his little corner spot that offers big colour and flavour. My favourite item so far has been his raw, vegan, club sandwich – if you missed out, beg him to serve this again – you won’t believe how good eggplant bacon tastes!
Doug makes different smoothies every week, which are some people’s breakfasts, but I’ve been having them mainly as dessert so I can keep enjoying a crepe or dumplings as my “main course” for breakfast, too! This past week he made a Choco-Hemp Smoothie with dates and frozen banana that was incredibly tasty and so smooth – I sipped every ounce pretty quickly and felt great after.
If you go see Doug on Saturday mornings (you should!), say hi to Doug’s wife, Candice! She is a very, very, nice person, who always greets everyone with smiles and knows so much about food too.
Even if you aren’t vegan, you should try out Doug’s food, you will probably get hooked on it, it’s so good, and there is no where else to get it in Toronto!
P.S. If you have a nut allergy, many of Doug’s dishes have nuts in them, and all may contain them. Please be aware of this!
