What a great surprise it was to come back to the city after an incredible summer up in Algonquin Park, completely unplugged from any technology (but unfortunately also missing out on really good food!), to learn that a new organic, vegan, Italian Eatery (that doesn’t use nuts in their cooking!) had opened in Toronto. It’s very rare to find somewhere with all of these traits, and a bonus that it’s in uptown Toronto in the heart of Mount Pleasant Village!
Bella Bio is owned and run by exceptionally nice people who understand the qualities of cooking with organic and vegan ingredients, and who know about and are against GMOs. Mauro and Lisa couldn’t do enough for our family, and we even met their daughter who works with them, named Maria. We tried so many different dishes, and enjoyed them all family-style! Sharing lots of different things is always fun. The kamut pastas were amazing, you should read more about them here. The sauce was very plain, which means that the tomatoes that were used to make the sauce were of the highest quality (organic too, of course!) for it to taste SO good, every bite was appreciated and savoured by all of us, especially my little brother, who is the most difficult to please in our family! We also devoured an order of breaded cauliflower, a potato and pepper bowl, rice balls, and a fresh, hot eggplant parmesan. I also tried their seitan, which I really liked (only me out of my whole family), although we all really liked their “bolognese” sauce which was made with organic soy.
For dessert my brother and sister enjoyed organic fruit smoothies and a vegan version of a cannoli plus we tried strudels, which are fun to eat, but far from healthy – for any fans of “pop tarts”, please switch to these!!!
I took this off the Bello Bio website about what their name means:
BELLO- meaning beautiful in Italian + BIO- meaning organic in Italian = Beautiful Organics and that is exactly what you will find at Bello Bio; beautiful Certified Organic vegan products from Italy.
Check out my pictures below, and please go and eat here, I beg you. We all need more of these places with a commitment to making and serving real food, so let’s all support them! I will be adding Bello Bio to my next version of top Vegan spots in Toronto!
