First of all, Happy New Year everyone! I just want to thank all of you who read and actually take my reviews and advice seriously and go to these restaurants, and try to eat better every day. It was a treat to have Owen, one of the owners and awesmazing head chef at Harvest Kitchen come over to our table this morning and tell me how many people got referred to them through my blog! I love writing and it makes me feel really good to realize that so many people read it, so I thank you very much.
After our really great family dinner at Harvest Kitchen last year (last week!), I heard through the internet that they were starting to serve brunch on new year’s day, and I wanted to try it out first – and we were actually their first customers of 2014 today! Their brunch menu looked great, and extensive including brunchy items and more lunchy items, depending on how early you may have had breakfast, or may not have had it at all (I hadn’t today since I was up until 1:30 last night/in the morning toasting the new year with Kombucha, eating homemade tapas, enjoying a vegan sundae bar, and watching a live streaming Phish concert).
We arrived and entered through their new orange curtain, which is really cool and meant to keep the draft away from the rest of the restaurant. Good thing, because it’s so cold out! My brother took a little bit of time contemplating over their juice menu – he is serious about his juices. He finally decided to order a very fruity “Rise ‘n Shine” which includes pineapple, carrot, and OJ. It only took him around 30 seconds to drink it! My dad ordered the “Two Minutes for Roughing” which included kale, spinach, celery, apple, lemon, and ginger – always a great colour and combination! I kept it simple, drinking Toronto tap water!
We were all very happy with our chosen dishes. You can see the pictures and descriptions below (we were so hungry that I forgot to take pictures right away, so sorry if there are a few bites out of the food and they aren’t as nice looking as when they arrived to our table!). The Corn Millet Pancakes were a real pleaser, my dad wasn’t originally going to order them, but my brother insisted that he did, as he wanted to try them, even though he ordered organic eggs benedict on a red fife English muffin with seared tomatoes and spinach, which he ate in a very strange manner, but very quickly with a smile! I had something I normally don’t eat, a Club Sandwich – and really enjoyed each bite a lot, the side of sweet potato fries had the perfect balance of crispness and saltiness. Certainly not health food, but a really tasty treat – and all real ingredients!
Like with their dinner menu, they can pretty much accommodate anybody, and any dietary restriction you might have, plus the space has a great atmosphere that makes you feel welcome and warm. Their menus all offer a pretty big selection, and their portions are very generous! Start 2014 off with some real good food at this spot!
