Flock Rotisserie + Greens is the latest awesmazing spot, just opened at 330 Adelaide St. West, by one of my favourite chefs, Cory Vitiello. Fun fact: the Harbord Room, Cory’s first restaurant and one that tops my list, was one of the first restaurant reviews that I wrote, and every time I go back, it’s so great that I should write another one soon!
Like Cory’s other restaurants, the food is exceptional. Unlike Cory’s other restaurants, this one is not a full sit-down restaurant, but functions primarily as take out. There are a handful of bar stools in the comfortably large space. It’s good it is big, because I predict that it will be very busy, ALWAYS here.
Although rotisserie chicken would seem to be the focus as its name and logo might imply, the salads are notable, delicious, interesting and there are lots of vegan protein options, including one of our family favourites, the lentil!
The blackboard menu that spans the width of the restaurant is simple, but includes something for everyone (and most everything for me!). Choose from a whole, halved or quartered rotisserie chicken, right out of their specially imported, large, glass doored “machine” and pair it with a choice of House Caribbean Pepper Sauce or Chimichurri. I tried them, and highly recommend both! I must admit, I had chicken as my second course, following loving the Pulled Chicken Sandwich, which was the first thing I saw on the blackboard, and knew I had to order since it had avocado on it, along with boston lettuce, tomato, dijon mustard and a nostril-clearing, absolutely awesmazing apple-beet horseradish.
We also loved the fully loaded salads, my mother and sister were especially happy, and wouldn’t be impressed by any simple salad, since they make great ones, with fantastic ingredients at home. The French Lentils were delicious in a caper and olive dressing, and I look forward to trying other varieties when I go back. You can choose from 4 different salads that they recommend, or build your own. Who doesn’t love being able to choose your own stuff?
If you want real, fast food downtown, go try to enjoy Flock.
