Last night, I had the distinct honour to speak at Shoresh’s Taking Root event at the beautiful new Artscape Sandbox in downtown Toronto. You can watch my 5 minute speech just below, I hope you do! There are pictures below the video, so please take a look at them too!
For those of you who are not aware of this incredible organization, PLEASE, I urge you to take a few moments to check them out on their website here. You can read more about my connection to Shoresh and the bees here.
We began the evening with one of my favourite pastimes – EATING! Often at events, I have to really ask about each dish before eating it to make sure the ingredients are ones that I feel good eating, but not at this event – all of the food was clean and being served by amazing people doing incredible things in food in Toronto. I hope I thanked all of them while I was there personally, but I want you to know about their sponsorship of the event and their kindness so you can support them too! Thanks to my mom, Jaime Slavin and Dina Rock for volunteering and organizing this great lineup of snacks while we “schmoozed”:
New Moon Kitchen for their cookies
Chocosol for their energizing chocolate drink and chocolate
Chef Doug McNish for his awesmazing latkes with applesauce and cashew sour cream
Yoso and Sweets from the Earth for their bagels and dairy-free cream cheese
Clearwater Catering for their assorted vegetable sushi
Michelle Kopman of Rawfoodz and Green Angel Foods for all of her products and pasta salad
Sunflower Kitchen for their hummus and pesto
Mobius Catering for that really cool honey garlic soup served in individual glass vials
Mighty Fine Brine for their pickles, and for the virgin bloody mary shots with pickle brine and Sosnicki Organic heirloom tomatoes
Rise Kombucha for their incredible support and colourful kombucha
(and Southbrook Wine and Beau’s Beer, but I’m not old enough to drink that yet!)
I also want to thank all of the inspiring speakers who also told their stories last night. I really felt privileged to share a podium with Chef Anthony Rose, Professor Andrea Most, Rabbi Rafi Lipner, Ran Goel, Dara Solomon and Debbie Field, plus Rochelle Rubinstein, Alicia Kaplan and, of course, Shoresh’s executive director, Risa Alyson Cooper.
I also want to thank everyone who contributed to the speaker “goodie bag” – you can see what I received here, I love them ALL!!
I felt so happy when I left the event last night. It is so great to be with my friends and family at such a great place, for such a great cause!
