Although I’m less into packaged foods, and more into real food made fresh, you can’t imagine how often I need to take instant food with me, usually as a meal substitute when I’m away from home. Some of you might have seen a photo of what I took on a recent two night trip to Ottawa to understand how prepared my family is when we leave our home. So, when I find a new product that is made with great, organic ingredients, without added crap, I jump at the chance to try it! My family and I are excited about the opportunity to add something to our small rotation of products that are made from the right stuff AND taste good and can be eaten on the go!
I was familiar with Taste Adventure Foods* from their instant refried pinto bean mix – with only two ingredients (pinto beans and sea salt). I first tried them in the fall when my mom and I stumbled upon this product at Qi Natural on Eglinton Avenue West (great store!). We tried it and it was awesmazing! I am not a cook, but with the simple instructions of just adding water and letting it sit for 5 minutes, I could even make this with great success! We have added these to our taco night often. Taste Adventure also has refried black beans as an instant mix, which is a great add-on to chips, sandwiches, and even salads (I put a TON on mine! :)!
Walking the aisles at Fiesta Farms, we move slowly, because they tend to have new products on shelf every time we go. I cannot recall who spotted the Taste Adventure row of instant soups, but my sister and I were most excited and immediately picked up one of each flavour, planning a taste test that evening. Since there aren’t many instant organic products out there, we had high hopes for the simple and organic, vegan, gluten-free and nut-free product that’s packed with protein and other nutritional goodness!
We laid out the soups with their rainbow labels, and tried them one by one. The flavours include: Split Pea, Black Bean, Curry Lentil, Sweet Corn Chowder, and Golden Pea. They were all nourishing and delicious with the exception of the Split Pea, which I do not recommend. The Golden Pea was my favourite (and my sister’s too) – so look for that yellow label and try it. I would imagine we all need instant food at some point, somewhere!
Taste Adventure is a great company being innovative in the instant food market – good for on-the-go or just a snack at home!
*If you are reading and would like to buy these foods, I have seen them at Organic Garage, Fiesta Farms, and Qi Natural Food! If anyone from Taste Adventure is reading this, I can’t find you on social media, I called both of the phone numbers on your website, but they had been disconnected, and I would love be in touch! Please let me know a way I can reach you!
