The Forager Project – Organic Chips

It’s likely that we’ve all enjoyed many kinds of chips, and even if we buy organic ones, they’re still a packaged and manufactured food, but I really love them. I, for one, have had chips made from more than the obvious potatoes – everything from rice and corn to beans and root veggies. I had never tried chips made from fresh pressed organic vegetables until my parents brought back a couple of bags from a trip to California in late May. Any time there is a new product they think my siblings and I will like, they bring it home (one of my mom’s favourite hobbies is food shopping at healthy grocery stores!).

I didn’t know anything about the company behind these Forager Organic Vegetable Chips before I opened them. I first tried the beet ones, which are the distinctive purple colour of beets, but the first ingredient listed is “fresh pressed vegetables” including celery, cucumber and beets. I do not normally like beets (unless roasted in hummus), but these tasted delicious, and not at all like the beet flavour that I was expecting. There is also millet flour in them and sprouted brown rice flour, which makes these chips almost like health food! Next, I opened the “Greens” chips (I’m eating one right now for extra writing inspiration) which have cucumber, celery, kale, romaine, fennel, basil and parsley as the first ingredients and contain sweet potato and red lentil flour too. They are even better than the beet ones. Neither are too salty, and happened to pair perfectly with a vegan tzatziki made with cashews by vegan chef Doug McNish that my mom and I were enjoying.

After eating the chips, I visited the Forager Project website to see about where I could get more, and if they are available in Canada. Unfortunately, they are currently only available in select US states, but fortunately I learned more about the company, and that they have a huge line of juices and milks (including avocado juice, which I really want to try!), plus, they want to use organic ingredients to bring us great snack food and drink. Every one of their formulas contain tons of interesting combinations of different veggies!

From juice to chips, Forager uses the whole vegetable and lets nothing go to waste — so they are not only putting real food into great looking packaging, but their brand is committed to providing healthy & sustainable products for us. If we all start asking for these products, maybe they will be in Canada soon too!

“Fast slow food.”
“Less sugar is better.”
“Ingredients rule, food matters!”
“We strive to elevate people’s every day experience of food by creating original, high quality, minimally processed & beautifully presented organic products.”
“Forager. A Way to Eat.”
The above are all found on their website and packaging. This is the right type of company to support, don’t you think?
