Booch Kombucha

I. Love. Kombucha.

I love some of the big, natural brands who brew really good kombucha (RISE, Tonica, Brew Dr., Kevita, GTs and more) but, like with all food and drink, I really appreciate buying, trying, enjoying and supporting a small, organic and artisanal brand. Locally we have organic kombucha to enjoy from Witches Brew, Vams, and Alchemy, but this positive review is all about Booch — a kombucha that declares that it’s made with love, right on their list of ingredients on their large, dark, glass bottles.

If you haven’t tried kombucha before, it is a healthy substitute for soda/pop.  Kombucha has been consumed for thousands of years and is a fermented probiotic drink that has some pretty big health claims if it’s the real deal, but it just tastes really good, in my opinion. It is made from tea, sugar, a scoby and a starter from a previous batch, but I’ve been told that the sugar and caffeine is used all up in the fermentation process so, it has very little caffeine or sugar in the final product – but like with anything shouldn’t be consumed without limits!

I had tried to find this brand after seeing it online at multiple stores in Toronto to no avail, but today, when in Barrie, at Goodness Me, I happened upon a huge display of Booch, and immediately grabbed one of each flavour they had to take home and taste test. They were all REALLY good. Not too fizzy, but not too flat. The flavours were all bold but not overpowering. Instead of really simple flavours, which I also like, Booch does some more creative things with their combinations. My favourite by far was the citrus twist, with hints of orange, lime, lemon and tumeric and ginger, which happens to be a flavour profile that I like in food and drink. The Greens3, was my next pick, since it had spirulina and chlorella with a hint of mint and a nice light green colour – and only because of the greens included, nothing fake here! My sister’s favourite was the Raspberry Lemonade, which is a bit too sweet for my tasting, and she also loved the Chaga Chai, which she thought tasted a bit like root beer.

My only complaint is that after visiting the Booch website, I saw pictures of a “warm apple pie” variety, and other delicious looking feature flavours that I wasn’t able to try yet! Anyone in Toronto want to support a small brand and make me really happy by carrying this kombucha?
