Even though Nutbar is on a lower level and it’s freezing cold outside, their space at 1240 Yonge Street (in Rosedale) is warm, bright, and welcoming! They brand themselves as a “superfood snack cafe”, and have a sign that clearly lets us know that they use 90% organic ingredients – all promising even before placing an order!

For a small menu on the wall of mostly drinks, it was remarkable how many things I wanted! As I looked at the list of hot and cold drinks, and smoothies, one thing caught my eye; the Ginger Bomb, which included fresh shredded ginger, turmeric, lemon, and raw honey, served hot. Seeing as I love fresh ginger, I immediately decided to order it. While my little brother decided what he would order (he has more of a sweet tooth than I do and has a hard time choosing when everything looks good), I looked over their different food selections. They have a display case of beautifully placed sweet treats and a list of toasts made on organic bread by Prairie Boy Bread, baked in Toronto. I automatically chose their avocado toast (if you didn’t know, avocado is my favourite food), but unfortunately, they were all out of avocado, which was a good thing, because it forced me to try something different. Their Savoury Toast was topped with a housemade cashew turmeric spread, thin slices of watermelon radish, and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Even not being a radish lover, this was DELICIOUS! My brother, mom, and I also decided to try one of their dessert balls, and we shared a their cookie dough one – it was a delicious, chewy, not too sweet treat. I recommend it! By this time, my brother had finally decided on his drink – the Fresh Cranberry, which was a hot drink of lemon, honey and lots of bright, whole cranberries! As soon as he took a sip he exclaimed how good it was – then inhaled the drink in just a minute! Their elixirs and smoothies sound great, and I look forward to going back to trying them, and their nutmilks.

Whether you are looking for a hot or cold drink, something savoury or sweet, Nutbar has an item for you that is chock-full of the best ingredients and superfoods – and really delicious too! I’m happy they are open in Toronto, and hope you will visit and enjoy!
