Hippeas

Aside from being the happiest, boldest and most eye-catching snack packaging I’ve seen, Hippeas are simply awesmazing. Before I convince you to run to the store if you are in Canada, like me, I should warn you that they are not yet available in Canada. Maybe if we all email, call or tweet them, we can make it happen!

Hippeas are described as Organic Chickpea Puffs. I would say they are more crunchy than puffy but look like a conventional “cheesy” in shape – without the toxic modified ingredients and fake orange colour. The entire line is vegan, nut-free, organic, gluten-free, kosher, has no additives or preservatives, are high in fibre, offer a source of protein, and are packed with good vibes (their saying, not mine, but I can corroborate)!

My mother originally noticed Hippeas on Instagram, and when we were away in Arizona over the winter holidays, we found out that they carried them at Starbucks locations there. We have never frequented one Starbucks, let alone every one we passed on the way to and from every hike, just to check to see which flavours they had. While there, we only managed to find the White Cheddar and the Far Out Fajita flavours – both awesmazing. A few weeks later, we drove to Michigan to see friends from camp, and in our aisle-by-aisle shop at Plum Market, we hit the jackpot! We found large bags of Hippeas in every flavour, plus they were on sale. My family basically cleared the shelves out!

After trying the other flavours including Maple Haze, Sriracha Sunshine and Pepper Power, I can tell you that they are all really good, but the Far Out Fajita and Pepper Power are my favourites. My little brother likes the vegan white cheddar best. I notice that there are two other flavours, In Herbs We Trust and Sweet & Smokin’ that I will need to find and try!

I read on the Hippeas website that chickpea plants naturally release nitrogen back into the earth as they grow, so they’re as good for the planet as they are for us to eat. This packaged product is a winner. Look for the bright yellow bags smiling at you and grab a few for yourself and to share!

At Plum Market stocking up on Hippeas!
Set up for the taste test!
