The Big Carrot has been an institution in Toronto when it comes to healthy food (and everything else), with a selection that is almost entirely organic and one that supports local farmers, our local food producers – and other businesses, making the best available to all shoppers. My family has been shopping at their Danforth location for years – it’s complete with a dispensary, organic juice bar, personal care department and a great rooftop patio to enjoy a meal from their cafeteria! Naturally, we were really excited when they announced the opening of a second location – in the Beaches. Unfortunately, it is far from where we live, so won’t be a regular shopping experience for us, but I was honoured to be invited to their VIP pre-opening party at the beautiful space in the east part of Toronto. The space is smaller than the Danforth, with only 6,300 square feet compared to the first location’s 10,000 square feet, but they are packing a lot of goodness into the small space. The walls and floor are adorned with beautifully-designed infographics showcasing the store’s commitment to health, organics, local, fair-trade, and non-GMO products.
As always at the Big Carrot, it was great to see Sarah Dobec, their marketing manager, and I had the privilege of meeting a lot of the amazing team who are involved in the beautiful new space. Also present were a few local real food advocates which formed a group that I was very excited to be a part of.
Straight from the Big Carrot’s kitchen, the beautiful spread of food included all-organic mini-meatballs, bacon-wrapped dates, veggie pakoras, mini shots of gazpacho, breaded salmon balls, and crudités with hummus! Little smoothies made with Blue Majic and Kombucha and fresh orange juice cocktails plus Southbrook Wine, Beau’s Beer and Alchemy Kombucha. All organic and really delicious – stop by their kitchen to explore these prepared foods and more!
Although the store was not fully stocked yet (they open this Thursday, June 21st, 2018), it was a treat to wander the aisles and check out what they will be offering!
I am very excited that another real food store has opened in Toronto, in another neighbourhood! Go support and celebrate all they do and their amazing business and fill your cart with the best! It is said that if you keep good food in your kitchen, you will eat good food, so The Big Carrot is the place to start!
