Greenhouse Juice Co.

Finally a juice place opened that was 100% organic with the biggest cold-press that I’ve ever seen (and the first cold-press that I’ve ever seen)! Greenhouse Juice Co. is located in midtown Toronto in the cutest little white “house” on a side street just steps from Yonge Street in Rosedale. I love what they have done with their logo, they have toques, aprons, great stickers on their glass juice bottles and my mom pointed out that their light fixtures were also in the shape of their logo!

I arrived here directly from the Brickworks Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning along with a bunch of friends, as they all wanted to try it out too after my mother talked about her visit the day before. Even though, I usually write at the end if I will be frequenting someone, I’m going to write it at this point of the review this time. We will definitely all be back to Greenhouse Juice Co.!

You can’t imagine how busy this little spot was even though they just opened last week! It’s so great to see a lineup for something so good! Apparently they have been selling out of their juices and nut milks everyday, which is obviously amazing – that means there are a lot of healthier and happy people walking around Toronto now!

It’s no secret that I love green juice and I tried two different ones at Greenhouse Juice Co. You can see both below in pictures, but my favourite was “The Good”, which remarkably didn’t have any apple in it, which I thought would have made it too bitter, but every sip had a perfect burst of flavour and organic goodness. I highly recommend it! If you’ve never had a green juice before, or any vegetable juice, I suggest trying a cold-pressed apple juice or their Chia Seed Hydrator which is really just like sweet water with the seeds in it (this one also looks really cool, picture below too). A great feature about this place (another one!), is that they have little white shot cups where they will sample any of their juices for you so you can choose to invest in one that you love – or more than one!

Even though it was busy, they took the time to explain to me about their huge cold-press and why they use this method – it retains all of the nutrients of the produce because it runs on hydraulics, versus regular juicers, used elsewhere, which heat up and burn away some of the nutrients. The juices here also last in their glass bottles for 72 hours.

Soon they will have a full smoothie bar too, but they are still working on that.

I also bought a terrarium – a neat looking plant in one of their glass bottles that “grows” clean air. It now resides in my bedroom. I am going to try to take care of it!

I really liked that they had all of their produce out for us to be able to see that it’s all organic. One of the people working there told us that they didn’t have one of the juices the day we were there, because they couldn’t get one of the ingredients organically at this time of year. Everyone I was with was really excited to hear this since it really does mean that they have a commitment to serving us only organics, as they promise!

A little personal side note: As we were leaving, one of the many friendly staff complimented me on my Phish toque, from that point, I realized that Greenhouse Juice Co. combines a lot of what I love, an appreciation for Phish and organics, plus it’s owned by alumni from my summer camp! That made me feel really good.

Even though their picnic benches were covered in snow and ice, I cannot wait to go back and hang out there – and maybe they will let me see that cold press in action, or use it someday!

And, I have already updated my Best Juice Bars in Toronto list to include Greenhouse Juice Co.!
